1964 Pontiac GTO Road Racer
Tempests were campaigned on road courses at Sebring and Daytona when new, and this car is a tribute to those boxy racers. Bob Tillius entered a 1964 Tempest shown below into the 1971 Trans-Am series. The car was known as the Gray Ghost and was more heavily modified but shows that the shape is at home on the track. The rear of the red car has a NASCAR-style trunk spoiler and window bars. A Fuel Safe cell sits low in the trunk.
