My daughter is obsessed with owls and her favorite color is blue. So I combined the two for her 2014 Halloween Costume.
I bought a long sleeve clearance Tshirt from Walmart. Bought 1.5 yards of flannel for each color used. Made a foam template to cut out each "feather". I sewed each layer on starting from the bottom and working my way up. I even added fake feathers for added flare. Once I got closer to the top I used fabric glue to attach the "feathers". I did cut the collar of the shirt out for easier dressing. I cut and glued a feather boa around the new collar of the shirt.
The wings were made with cutting out flannel "wings" and sewing the "feathers" on. The top layer was glued on so you could not see the stitches. The large flannel piece used for the feathers to be attached, was then glued to large felt "wing" cut outs, so the inside of the wings were presentable and no stitches were shown. I
