I love to add color to metal jewelry. Besides beads and gemstones, I have found metal inks to be very impressive. I have sponged the inks onto textured metal, let dry for just a minute and then lightly sand some off to get the design you like. Then let the item dry for 10 minutes or longer. Vintaj is the brand I have used. They offer lots of colors. Have fun!
