LONGEST RR TUNNEL IN U.S. The Cascade Tunnel refers to two tunnels at Stevens Pass through the Cascade Mountains, approximately 65 miles (105 km) to the east of Everett, Washington. The tunnel passes under downtown Seattle. Opened 1900 at a cost of $4 million. It soon proved inadequate and was replaced. Pictured is the original east portal. [today]
